Do’s #1:- Keep Your Subject Line Short & Brief

It is estimated that subject lines with no more than five words result in higher open rates and click-through rates than emails with longer subject lines. However, you can still use a subject line at 6-word, if it is what works best for you. It is not a universal law that a subject line has to be 5 words.

Humans are curious by nature. Therefore, your subject lines have to be appealing and unique enough that peak some interest from your audience. The key is: stimulate curiosity by NOT giving away all the information in the subject line. To achieve this, you need to present your audience with a little bit of a tease that captures their attention and encourages them to learn more by opening the email. For example, action verbs are very useful when it comes to emphasizing a message. You can use it to resonate with your audience as much as possible.

Do’s #3:- Communicate the Promise of Value

Remember, your email subject line is making a promise to your audience about what you will deliver in your message. In other words, your subject line has to make the recipient believe that the email contains information that is valuable or beneficial to them. For example, you can provide a discount or a giveaway offer – just make sure you make it clear in the subject line what is in it for them.

Do’s #4 Make It Urgent & Scarce

It is said that email subject lines that create a sense of urgency and scarcity can generate higher open rate. To achieve that, you can give your audience a deadline to do something. For example, you can set the deadline in just a few hours or use term like “tomorrow” to create a sense of urgency that makes your audience feel they have to act NOW or they will miss out something great. In addition to urgency, you can create scarcity in your subject lines. For example, use terms like “limited quantity available”, “only 3 left” and “last remaining stock” to incentivize your audience to open the email. Scarcity and urgency go hand in hand when it comes to email marketing. Subject lines that are both urgent and important can increase your open rate, drive more traffic to your website, and potentially increase conversions.

Do’s #5 Experiment

Remember, you will only know your audience’s reactions to your subject lines after you have sent them something. You should always consider sending each segment of your email list two or more subject lines to test. One subject line may be a “how to” subject line that highlights the benefits of learning new information from your email while the other could be a “direct” subject line that provides a last minute offer. The options are endless. As each email campaign is unique, it is always good to try and test different subject line styles and find out what works best for you.
